Our History
born from an explorer’s spirit and a deep love for nature, this tea comes from the sacred, untouched soil of Namchic
where undulating hills roll gently into mist, where clouds drift low, and rains softly awaken the earth. Surrounded by lush forests and flowing rivers, this is a land still pure, still quietly alive.
It is believed that tea first found its way into India through these very hills - carried by the Singpho people, whose knowledge of the leaf and the land gradually travelled onward into Assam. In many ways, this soil still holds that memory.
From this pristine landscape, a tea was nurtured with care and devotion - each leaf carrying the rhythm of rain, the whisper of winds, and the serenity of the hills.
More than a tea, it is a feeling… gentle, soulful, and quietly enchanting - bringing you closer to nature, one cup at a time.
Namchic remains a small, thoughtfully nurtured estate - shaped not by scale, but by intent. The journey is guided by Mr Prem Bhajanka, drawing from his long association with Century Ply and Star Cement, and brought to life with the quiet involvement of Sudhir and Puja Kochhar (Director, Namchic Tea), along with the guidance of a very senior industry voice, Mr. Harkirat Sidhu.
Through seasons of learning and care - of choosing the right clones, understanding the land, and refining the craft - the estate slowly found its rhythm. The thoughtful selection of quality clones, in which Mr. Sudhir Kochhar played a key role, has given Namchic a distinctive character - resulting in a combination that is rare and not easily found elsewhere.
The early groundwork of pioneers like Limtan Jugli and the late Mr. Suren Phukan helped anchor this vision in the soil, bringing together land, people, and purpose.
At its heart, Namchic is sustained by the many unseen hands who nurture it each day- the workers, supervisors, estate manager, consultant and the local community, whose bond with the land flows gently into every leaf.
Today, under the spirit of AKIYA, this shared journey comes together in a tea that is simple, sincere, and deeply rooted - each cup carrying a quiet story of nature, people, and time.
